Class Format and Policies

Monthly sign-up begins at 10:00am on the 15th of each month for the following month's session;

(i.e. sign-up for February classes will be on January 15th)

* There will be no credits or refunds for withdrawal from class after the confirmation date

Classes consist of a total of 4 one hour classes once a week for four weeks. (Some students repeat the Novice or Advanced Novice classes more than once.) There is a maximum of 6 students, and a minimum of 3. Inclement weather decisions about court playing conditions and postponements will be made no earlier than 90 minutes and usually 60 minutes before each class. Make up classes for postponements will be scheduled by the instructor.

Class Descriptions:

Novice - (NTRP Rating 1.0-2.0)

This class is designed for players that have never played the game, or have played, but never had a formal education of tennis. Basic mechanics and technique of the forehand, backhand, volleys, overheads, serves, and return of serves are covered. Basic tennis scoring and strategy are also touched on. At this stage, stroke analysis is crucial, and shots are taught mostly from stationary positions.

Advanced Novice - (NTRP Rating 2.0-2.5)

This class is designed for players that have had an introduction and/or initial education of the game, and have the basics down, or for those of you that have taken the novice class and are ready to move up to the next level of instruction. Strokes are fine tuned and specialty shots are introduced, (i.e. lob, dropshot, half volley scoop). Movement and ball placement also become key. Students will have opportunities to put what they've learned into play through games and live ball drills. Preparation for match play as well as singles and doubles strategy are introduced.
